    D2a instrument panel light dimmer

I'm thinking the odometer light has blown but I want to turn the dash light up or down just to see if that is the problem.
Does the D2a have a dimer switch ?

    Thanks
    Les

IIRC i read on here that the Japanese version did have a dash light dimmer function. If you look behind the steer wheel on teh left hand side, there is a small rectangular that has a border around it.

Again IIRC, this is where they were installed. pretty sure the artical said that the wiring was in place for it as well.

Not going to help you but but through I would add it

Simply - if the odometer is dark at night - the LED has blown...

The switch wiring and connector is not fitted but the wiring can always be modified. The switch has an inbuilt pwm generator so needs power and earth to genenerate the signal. Whilst I can't remember the actual cost, when I inquired around 10 years ago the switch price was somewhere around $150-$200.

Thanks guys for the feed back, may just change the light. I see in the owner's handbook that LEDs should only be fitted by qualified personnel !!! they can't be that dangerous to change.

Can anyone tell me what these "rheostat dimmer switches" are for then?

I thought, and admittedly I have been too lazy to do my homework on this, that this switch might be able to pick up the ambient light levels coming into the cabin when the headlights are on and vary the output of the dash/console lights accordingly?

It seems like a useful idea...even my wife's little Kia Rio has a dimmer. Surely LR could have put one into the Disco.

That switch looks very similar to and could be the original LR switch. It doesn't react to ambient light levels though. LR were simply saving money not fitting them to Oz versions.
