Well I had a very successful day today. I managed to get the wheel nuts off without much drama at all. I used the "bash the socket on" method and worked a treat. The first side I used a 1" cheapy socket and tapped off afterwards. This was to big for the other side so had to use a good quality 24mm socket. Murphies law bit me on the butt and I can't get the good socket off. Put in the shed for a rainy day.
Also got my snorkel fitted today so it's now ready to hit the tracks.
Thanks for all the useful info, I sure I will need more in the future.
Excellent news. I think half of the winning with the socket bashing method is the bashing.
I've got all my gaskets in hand so if tomorrow is a productive day I'll be mobile for the weekend.
i got nothing to add - just got hooked in by thread name :D:D

Spent a lot of time trying to think my way through this problem last week. Should have come to you guys first up. Needless to say , I've not put lock nuts back on the old girl. Have had some pretty hairy situations in the bush hundreds of k's from anywhere , and if I hadn't been able to get wheels off it seriously would have been life or death. I really can't believe the problem is so common? Great thread. Wished I looked for it earlier !!!!
