a better light output for tailgate high brakelight?

My high tailgate stop/brake light has pathetic light output. I've noticed others the same. Just musing but anyone found some led solution or similiar to improve things. Thought I saw somewhere that the wiring is inadequate/unsuitable for this but may be wrong

    Yup, your right...

The output is pathetic, and to top it off, mine keeps blowing globes - to the point where the cover has been left off, as the threads for the screws were starting to strip.

I tried a LED globe from J-car, but for some reason, it didn't quite fit. Might have a look around Evilbay & see what else i can find. I was thinking about modifying a spare 12v led I have here for the garden lights....

Have You checked the bulb, when they are about to blow they sometimes have a black burn in the glass, this diminishes out put light.

yes checked that. In fact its come to mind because I recently replaced a blown bulb. They do seem to go more than other vehicle bulbs. As a supposed safety feature they are pretty useless. Can buy a replacement one on UK fleabay but if its OME or similiar it won't be any better. Needs some LED boost.

Try Bright Light Auto parts. They're both on ebay and on line. They have a very wide range of led and other globes, lights etc.
