Ashcroft CDL and the SLABS ECU wire cut

Nice looking peace of kit.

I know I just bought one :) :) :) $466 to the door which was 4 days after taking my money.

About the wire. You do not have to cut it. Land Rover have given you an option. If you cut the wire you will not have an option.

Option 1: Start the car diff unlocked then lock the diff = diff lock + ABS + TC
Option 2: Lock the diff and then start the car = diff lock + reduced ABS (yes it is there just backed off) - TC

Most people who promote wire snipping do so because of the scenario of a needing to do a stall start and not wanting to have to remember to unlock the diff before restarting the car.

There can also be situations where there is an advantage to being able to turn off TC while having your diffs locked.

I like the idea of flexibility, so I will keep the wires as is.

yeah, but I think if you have stopped with the cdl engaged, you can't just move the lever back to the right before startup (like a switch) because usually you have to drive forward a bit for the cdl to drop out. I think you could disengage the cdl 25mts or so before you stop, then when you're off again, just slip it over. i'm only really talking about planned stops. not stalls etc. is this right, I always find myself mucking around after a stop.

If you unlock CDL in this scenario it wont disengage, plus being on a hill (to stall in the first place) is NOT a sensible time to be unlocking your CDL ;)

Cut wire, fit N/C push button switch somewhere... Best of both worlds, no need to unlock CDL in precarious situations...

I'd disagree with that. If the TC is causing problems then your tyre pressures are too high. With the correct pressures the TC at worst do not much and at best will help you in the sand, even in the back dunes at Stockton.

So far I've not found a situation where no ETC is better than having ETC.

(Sorry for this brain-fart) Are we still talking about the blu/black wire to the computer?

If not: which wire on the transfer box? Colour? And what is a T/C switch? I understand that it's a switch; Is it a special switch?

Or spend $100 on ebay and upgrade your SLABS ECU to an SRD500070 and get improved ETC programming that works with the locked CDL and does so without messing with your ABS, HDC and EBD. :D

Reading this..

1) Situations where this is a benefit
2) You want TC turned off
3) You mention having DIFFs locked..

On (3) you mean Diff Locks? Or CDL?

If, as it reads, you mean Diff Locks, then TC wont even come into play.

If you mean CDL and No TC, then your tyre pressures are wrong for the conditions :cool:

I have NEVER found a situation where TC has hindered progress, on powder sand, bulldust, snow, mud....

May be time to enhance your driving style and skills - Meant serious, not malicious.

I've just been out for the first trip since fitting an Ashcroft ATB diff in the rear. Have to say I won't be disabling the TC. CDL, TC & rear diff make one big difference. You can feel the TC working with the ATB to keep spin under control. You never seem to come to a stop, just occasionally you'll feel it grip more or slow while it gets things together.
