I fitted a MANTEC Snorkel 1 month ago and it does what all elevated air intakes do, it delivers dry, cooler, cleaner air to the engine. Apart from the imaginary RAM effect often attributed to a SAFARI Snorkel i reckon it functions no better or worse than any other. I chose the MANTEC because it was unobtrusive looking. Different strokes for different folks covers it i reckon.

Can't agree with that . Every snorkle works on the same principle, the only variable is the level of care when installing. have look at.... www.discovery2.co.uk and read his tutorial on installing the Mantec snorkle, then tell me why the Safari is better for water crossings. Cheers, Bob

IIRC when I asked a similar question to OP, it was mentioned there. Perhaps the wording is not the best. I meant by that line was that mantec was better for dirt roads in that it sucked in less dust than a Safari in stock from as the head faces forward. So I really shouldn't have said "better", it's more along the lines of 'just water go safari, water and dust mantec' if that makes sense :)
I went with a safari because it was cheaper :p

Would you say it was possible to fit a donaldson filter on top , albeit with a little boilermaking , Bob

I couldnt work out how the mantec was fitted/worked but I found this.
mantec snorkle install

Yup! - some metal work would be required because apart from having to match pipe and throat diameters the top part of the snorkel pipe does not finish vertical it has a rearward slant.

Can someone remind me why I shouldn't just buy a $200 eBay jobbie, instead of doubling that price and more for a mantec or safari??
