In your diagram, they should be at the left and right ends of the cable that joins the front batteries to the rear batteries (with the USI-160 in between) ... However, you might like Tim to suggest what/if a bigger breaker is required because you'll have the ability to draw winching ( shared duty) and jump starting loads ... 50A breaker may be a bit on the lite side.

I needed to take a look for a refresher on the options. I see Tim has added information about switch and LED hook up, which is handy for those wanting to do a custom install of the switch.

So I had a chat to Tim from Traxide regarding the circuit breakers and worked out that 150A marine circuit breakers should work for winching as they are rated at 150A for four hours.

Worst case is they trip and disconnect the rear battery bank and I have to reset them, I have not been able to find any automatic ones above 50A.

So here is an updated schematic including the circuit breakers and main cable sizing I am using.

Yep, only because I already have them and the new UL80's wont be available for a while. The current ones are not rated for under bonnet use.

I will replace the Optima's in the future with the new UL80's when they are available.

That's a neat setup with lots of capacity ... like 160A useable down to 60% discharge with still plenty left over for starting.

That would do my fridge and camping aux's about 5-6 days. Excellent!

One of the places I like going too is Stanage Bay.

Once you get there you have no where to drive (apart from putting the boat in when I get one) so the disco will sit there getting a trickle charge from the solar while I have a few beers, fish with the kids and generally laze around

I like to think of the setup I am building, is that of a very capable camper van, you just have to sleep outside though
