    Cargo or Dog Barrier Options

    Hi all
I’m looking at fitting either a cargo or dog barrier to my 7 seat D2a, so I’m seeking information on what options are available and people’s thoughts.

Ideally I‘d like the barrier to mount to existing bolt holes in the body and keep drilling and cutting of to a minimum. I also want to keep the 7 seats as they will be used when the barrier is removed. Its main purpose is not to hold back vast quantities of camping gear but to keep the dog where he belongs, in the back, despite what he thinks

After a bit of googling and searching on this site it appears that I have 4 options.

Milford: I have a high regard for their product and have had them fitted in most of my work vehicles over the last 20 years. However there is a lot of cutting new holes and I loose the rear grab handles. So not too fussed with them at this stage. That said they seem to be the only 2 position barrier available. Looks like they will be the most expensive.

Autosafe: From the pics on another post this looks better, but it seems that I would have to remove the rear head restraints (for the dicky seats) to locate the upper straps. Not sure I like the long upper straps either. They appear to certified to Australian standards.

4WD Systems: South Oz firm. Apparently they do/have made a D2 barrier. Does anyone have any information or a pic of their product fitted?

Land Rover Mesh Dog Guard: Seems fairly neat, uses the rear grab handle bolt hole, only requiring a couple of plates mounting behind the seatbelts. Ultimately though it will not be a safe as it is a ½ guard and it won’t be Aust stds certified. Probably will be the cheapest option though.

    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi,
I got the milford, be careful with installation as if you have the rear aircon, and follow the instructions as supplied, you will drill through the floor into the A/C pipes underneath.

I went with the LR mesh guard for the same purposes you've outlined: not a cargo restraint but to keep the dog in the back and be easily removable when required. I've got the rear aircon and stereo controls and wanted something that would allow it all to stay functional.

I've been happy with it: It installs and removes very easily and performs as expected.

    cheers

    Thanks guys,

I don't have rear aircond so that is one less problem to worry about.

One question Bidds, for your dog guard are the mounting points that attach to the vehicle metal, plastic or both?

    Cheers Steve.

They're just plastic: A different mount for the rear passenger grab handles and you install some clips behind the c pillars. Nothing heavy duty at all but good for it's intended purpose; nice and quiet too.

I've got the autosafe one, but in a 5 seater.

The bottom bolts to the anchor rings, the top to metal strips that go on to bolts in existing (unused) threaded holes under the rear trim. If you need to know the heights of the straps let me know.

To remove once you know what you're doing would take 10 mins I guess.

    All up, no complaints. $450IIRC.

    Thanks Stallie

I strongly suspect that those unused upper holes in the 5 seater are where the dicky seat rear head restraints mount in the 7 seater, so I'd have to remove them which I am loath to do at present.

Price though is much better that Milford though. Last quote was about $750 installed. Though from what you say installation of the Autosafe barrier could be done by anyone.

    Cheers Steve.

    7 seater with Milford

    HI all,
I;m looking at sourcing a Milford Cargo Barrier second hand. Does anyone know if you can still use the rear 2 seats in a 7 seater with the Milford installed?

No real reason why you cant.... other than it being very much like a Paddy wagon...lol.

The Milford uses proprietary upper mounts so the head rests in the rear remain intact AFAIK.. It will remove a little bit of leg room as well and you wont be able to access the occupants from the rear seat.. not entirely sure of the legal ramifications...
