1mm is quite a lot of wear life, I would guess your rotors are original, I wouldnt consider them an annual service item.
The general consensus seems to go for Bendix pads which are very good, I am running RDA pads presently and they are fine.
I've got my rear wheels off and measured my rear brake rotors thickness - 11.3 and 11.4mm. Just checked the minimum thickness stamped on the rotors and confimed in Rave and at www.discovery2.co.uk / Front Disc and Pads and it is 11.7mm, so I am under.
Out of interest I was measuring the replacement new rotors and they are only 1mm off the limit! Looking at www.discovery2.co.uk / Front Disc and Pads it seems that this is this is the standard - new rotors between 12.5 to 12.7mm.
Having only owned my D2 for a year, I'm curious is this an anual job to change with only 1mm of metal to wear off?
What are the thoughts on pads? Go for something soft to prolong the disc life or?

Mine are pretty well worn too...there's a big lip on the edge...I'm looking at replacing them as soon as the pads wear out.
What type/make are you going to replace them with??
If you have a big lip then yours must be well past their minimum thickness. You only have 1mm to burn through, so that is 0.5mm lip either side!
I am going to fit DBA (Disc Brakes Australia) 093X which is their X-Drilled Slotted Gold Street Series rotors.
Haven't decided on pads yet.
Cheers for that..I'm building my D2 up at the moment and rotors are on the cards very soon...as for pads...I think I'll go with Slunnie's recommendation of using EBC Green Stuff Pads....What's your opinion?
Dave
I've put DBA T2 rotors ( Disc Brakes Australia | T2 slot - Disc Brakes Australia ) on mine recently with LR pads. I'm very happy with the way they stop, which is a big improvement over the unidentified rotors and pads that were fitted when I bought the vehicle - they weren't LR parts whatever they were.
The recommendations I'd read were that drilled rotors tended to clog and crack when used off road, and either plain or slotted were a better option. It's worth noting the DBA "4x4 Survival" series rotors are slotted only. While I ordered the T2 street series rotors the rears came in a "4x4 Survival" box. The packaging and list of features on the "4x4" rotors were identical apart from the product name, so I'm not sure what the differences are, if any.
cheers
Paul
I just replaced all of mine with DBA slotted rotors and TRW pads,(recommended by the brake dudes), all good so far ,no noise and less dust than before!. As for wear ,the lips on my old rotors would put Mick Jagger to shame, they were so deep I couldn't get the vernier's on them!. I never changed pads or rotors in ten yrs on my old D1,but the previos owner of the D2 was a bit hard on them I think?.
Rotors seem to be a throw away item now????

Thanks guys....DBA T2 are the go then. I see they also do a T3 version with heat indicators on them!! Bit over kill for me I guess. I know Britpart also do a slotted rotor for the D2 but I like the fact DBA are an Australian company and I'm quite to support them by buying in Oz.
I read that a lot people recommend using LR pads as dust build from other generic pads can cause issues with the 3 Amigos. I've heard good reports from Slunnie on the EBC pads and also from other owners in the UK.
Dave
Sorry Paul....you are correct...I must be after having an R&R alcohol induced brain fart...
