Nasty melting wire smell.
Hi all after a rough track my td5 auto got a nasty smell about it. Similar to when the starter got stuck on any ideas as I can't find it I don't think the starter was stuck on and it is still starting fine. Any other clues? I can't work it out. Nervous to drive it in cast it catches on fire.

My thought is stock wiring usually is fine but still check where looms run past things.
Fire wall gromits, around the ECU ect..
Any live wires to the trailer plug?
I'd start with any add on wiring like duel battery and associated harneses.
Do you have a winch to check?
Please let us know what you find so we can check ours too.

Seems to have gone away now. Not sure if this is more of a concern as there is no insulation left to cook. It really smelt like the starter or some motor burning out . But all seems to work fine at the moment. I have left the mungrel but off the starter so I ought take it off and check it I am hoping it is still under warranty as it only went in in feb.

Any non standard wiring? Thats usually my first port of call when there is a wiring smell, something is shorting and i look for wiring thats not part of the original loom. Electrical, masking tape and duct tape will be around it. If a starter was stuck on it would have burnt out by now and not work.
Otherwise just cross your fingers and carry some wire for when whatever it was goes properly.
