    Key button replacement

    Hi all,

Did search But didn't really get my question answerered.

One of the buttons on my key fob remote from my 01 TD5 has broken and pushed right through. My other key fob is showing signs of wear as well. both keys work fine at the moment (touch wood).

Which way would be the best to go? Replace the key remote fob with one of the Chinese replacements that you put the old innards into or go the silicone remote pad repair that pulls the old Rubber off?

not overly worried about aesthetics just want it to last.

    cheers, Chris

I've got one of each. had the silicone for 2 years and the valeo copy about 1 yr.

both work fine but the valeo copy fob looks much better.

the silicone job looks just that, a cheap patch up wheras there is not a lot of diff in appearance between oem and the copy.

Just got a Chinese Valeo key off eBay last month, 2 weeks to get here but it looks very much like the real thing, I'm happy with it for $10.

Check this site or look for something similiar on eBay. Plenty of good options on the net.

Recieved my new Valeo key fob replacements off Ebay today.

Very happy with them. Took a couple of minutes to replace both key fobs. Hardest part was getting the tape off that was holding in the original rubber.

I kept the original pastic piece on the key that inserts into the fob. Main reason was that the "replacement" uses a plastin pin to thold the key inplace where the original is a metal pin.

There is a video on the net that show how to replace it. very easy to follow if you are unsure. http://www.google.com.au/url'sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=7&cad =rja&sqi=2&ved=0CG0QtwIwBg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yo utube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D7hKoLSjOBsE&ei=K6ZrUMuDMq3 MmAW74IGQDQ&usg=AFQjCNEYTleqbqodffDeud_i1oKgUdRVCg &sig2=NtDQ0k8HoyvY5n6B8QmHyA

VEry happy with the result and thankyou to all for the advice.

    Cheers, Chris
