My experience has been 84C running temp. Rises to 92C in traffic but quickly drops to 84 again once mobile. I haven't noticed any extra fuel use. I'm on LPG

    Just to add to this:

38degC ambient, 65degC air intake, 84degC while driving at 100km/h, 88degC while in traffic.

    I'm stoked

I no longer worry about hot days & traffic

    Hi all,
Than ks for all the research you guys have done on this. I have just bought a D2 with a 4.6 V8 on LPG and I was a bit worried about the temp, especially since we will be towing with it.

I have just ordered the PEL500110. As far as I understand this will give me the lower running temps but will also allow the heater to work as normal.

I ordered one through Anthony at British 4WD here in Melbourne. It was $63 picked up which saved me having to wait for one to come from the UK

Ok after reconditioned heads new cam And cooling system overhaul my d2 running stock thermostat And Green coolant runs 88 to 94 on the scan gauge even towing in 40 degree heat. I am happy with that. Provided the cooling system is maintained there is no problem at all with these temps. These are not like Barra Falcon motors running at over 100 all the time.

    Cheers

Just got mine back from the panel beaters who fitted a new radiator (thanks to the roo that made the sacrifice so my cooling system could be updated) with the freelander thermostat.

Gone from 94 on highway and 96 in traffic, higher when stationary to a static 87.5 suburban, 86 on highway. Hit 90 on a 34 degree day sitting at the lights for 5 min but dropped back by the time I was across the intersection.

All D2 owners DO THIS NOW.

    Thumbs down

Well I don't know what's going on with mine. I installed the new 82 thermostat and running temps went up. From about 95 up to 104. I assumed I had a faulty thermostat and so had it swapped for another. But again I had running temp of 103!!!
So I have no idea what's going on. It was a Bearmach thermostat not original but I doubt both would be faulty.

Fascinating thread. I was advised against lowering thermostat temp due to the ECU then changing the fueling. With a V8 and occasional trailer behind it - in sand, I'm pulled both ways! (pardon the pun).
How do we find the truth here?

well to me the opening temp doesnt make that much (if any) difference to the equilibrium temperature. it will take longer to get to equilibrium temp
but it wont change the engine heat output, or the cooling system cooling ability.

someone can probably explain it better
