Hopefully will do mine before we go away at chrissy,,
I suppose I should get my madman installed before I do it---
I have read all the pros and cons for changing thermostats and i decided to give it a go.
Originaly i purchased an inline housing from the states but hadn't put it in yet but when i saw the post on the PEM101020 from rimmers i thought it was neater.
Aud $60 landed.
Anyway it has been in for over a week now and it seems to be running about 4 deg cooler with no rapid temp fluctuations, i only have a engine gardien so i cant test it properly.
Fuel economy almost no change and noticeably cooler under the bonnet.
Hopefully will do mine before we go away at chrissy,,

That's a cooler temp but the spring in the bypass is still hard so there's little (if any) bypass at idle. They may also come in cream as per the original. I've got a grey unit on order, same temp but a lighter spring (I tried to cut back the spring in a dud one to try but you can't reach in there) but the lighter spring allows more flow in the other part of the circuit and by reports from the Americans using it in the desert areas and in Florida & the like it makes quite a difference. Temps are values when fully opened.
Part no's and info;
PEM100990 - Cream is 88° With hard Spring (Designed for Diesel and V8 applications)
PEM101020 - Black or Cream is 82° With Hard Spring (Designed for a V8 and used as a stopgap with K4 engines)
PEL500110 - Grey is 82° With Light Spring (K4 engines)
Out of curiosity why if the cooling system is working OK would you add a cooler Thermostat and steer away from the Manufacturer's standard?
My understanding is that the Rover V8 is at it's most effective at the higher temp and provided the cooling system is working OK then there is no issue?
The D2 walks a knife edge of temp vs failed liners at the best of times. And thats even in the UK where it's cooler, here it's a minefield on a knife edge.

I thought the higher temp wasn't so much for efficient running but for emissions?

Also, The freelander, cooler, softer sprung thermostat is available locally for about $60- (from RangeParts) and enquiries overseas was about $70- plus postage. For once local is cheaper!
I am interested in lowering the operating temperature of the Rover V8 as well, so I'll follow this thread with great interest.
I suspect that the heater's heat out put will be slightly reduced, but that's no big deal.
I have LPG on my top hat 4.6 V8 (originally a 4.0 which slipped a liner) and am toying with the idea of getting a replacement thermostat just to keep things running a bit cooler.
