    Discovery 2 Key Repairs

This one's is for all you Disco 2 owners with stuffed key fobs (buttons not working). I recently bought a D2 to go with the D1 unfortuneatly the key fobs were stuffed (buttons not working), so I bought a new key from Land Rover $260 + $60 to reprogram all keys. A bit pricey but what can you do, anyway a few days later while searching Ebay I found replacement buttons available from a company called POLMEX in Western Australia at a cost of $22 ea fob. Now I'm a bit sceptical about some of these quick fixes but I thought I would give it a try anyway. Well low and behold it works I now have 3 fully functioning key fobs and the repaired one's feels better than the new one. Check the link below for $22 bucks what have you got to loose.

And no I don't work for them or sell there goods.

Mate, sorry to tell you but you are a bit behind the times with regards to keys. You can buy brand new keys for between 120 - 160 from the UK, genuine part. You can also buy a complete fob excluding the circuit board for about 12 - 18 from eBay.

Do a search on this forum under D2.

I know I could have got one from the UK but I couldn't wait 2 weeks for it to arrive and as for the empty key fob well I tried one of those and they just don't work, the one I had only lasted a week.

There are some excellent quality cases around, I got a couple and they are great, marked as "Valeo" etc, not sure if they are the real deal or Chinese copies, but they were cheap and excellent quality so far.
I know what you are saying about the postage and waiting times though, it is always the parts you need that take the longest to arrive.
As long as you found a fix that works and is right for you, that is all that matters.
    Cheers

I have also done Polmex buttons on both my FOB's. They don't look _quite_ as schmick as the genuine ones, but they are actually a better polymer.

This assumes it is just the button membrane that is at fault.

When I got the new key from Land Rover the service manager told me that it's normally the rubber buttons that start all the problems not the switch itself, the rubber goes soft and the switch is damaged from pushing the buttons to hard trying to get them to work. The Polmex buttons are made from silicone and should last a lot longer.

I've bought the "valeo" ones (just 'cause I want the logo'd buttons) and they work well. Also on ebay there's replacement solder on buttons (the buttons on the PCB available. I've previously had to resolder mine and the legs break so you're soldering the body and it may short and need a few tries. But new bits is the go.

Yep, Got the 'Valeo" kit from EvilBay with new micro switches to solder on as the 1 fob had lost all its buttons when I got the car.The owner was going to toss it! Easy as to solder the newies in if rather fiddly just changed the key blade over to the new fob, snapped it together and voila! Very hard to tell original from replacement fob unless side by side, rubber is firm as orig but the name mouldings are not as sharp as original. even came with 2 new batteries and 2 spare micro switches
