    Question Rear brake pad shims

Rave says on 70-38 that shims are part of the brake pad in reference to the rear brake pads.

However, if not using genuine Land Rover brake pads should the shims be removed and transfered to the new brake pads? I am fitting Bendix 4WD.

Strangely, my vehicle had Lucas brake pads fitted on the passenger side. These had a metal shim on them that was easily removed from the back of the pad.
The drivers side had genuine Land Rover pads. These did not have a metal shim, but seem to have a soft material backing on the pad. The new Bendix have a backing like this on them.

IME bendix pads can become noisy without shims Scott.

    Thanks JC.

Hmmmm... Since only one side of the old pads came out with the metal shims, I can either fit shims to just one side (which I don't like the idea of as it's not even) or go no shims or see if I can find replacement shims anywhere (although I'm guessing they don't sell them separate to the new pads).

Re Chris' car was that the starting issue? I haven't had time this week to help him out at all. Hopefully I didn't knock the trigger wire off the starter motor when I was changing the FPR the other week.

no, that was last week, yes the starter wire fell off but then the inertia switch was intermittent as they had tried pushing it a few times during the course of investigation, a little too hard maybe as it failed, too

today was the transfer off, o rings on intermediate shaft, rear trans extension housing gasket replaced , serviced auto and new seals. was fairly leaking actually

hows the torque converter swap going?

Slowly. I started the other week in the drive way as the D2a doesn't fit in the garage with the 4" lift, 32" tyres and roof rack. That was a big mistake! Of course it kept raining and that so kept stalling me. Finally got it out and yesterday got the box back in (that was the worst part of it because it's so long and heavy). Been working on it a bit this afternoon, hopefully back up and running for this weekend.
