I have the dreaded 'oil in harness' problem
I know there have been posts in the past about this but just wondering if there are any methods people have found particularly effective in preventing it re-occurring.
I plan on replacing the injector loom, but notice that in past posts some people have 'cleaned' the main loom. My question is whether you just disconnect the loom from the ECU and let metho or prepsol drain through it overnight from the injector harness end to clean it - or is there a better way? - also can you clean the injector harness the same way to keep as a spare?
The other question is the about sealing the plugs - what is the best sealant to use - and is there any mod I can do to help the oil wick away from the harness before it gets into the ECU?
Thanks
Ian

I have been thinking about this also as I replaced my harness with the new harness that should have stopped this.
The only answer I can come up with is to replace the injector to main loom connector with solid pins.
I work with aircraft and one if the big no no's is to use hollow pins / sockets as oil migrates through the pins and then wicks up the wiring. Sealing connectors doesn't do *****. If anything, drill drain holes. I am half tempted to also cut the harness and put in a terminal strip so the oil will drain out of the wiring.
Note that only the injector harness needs the solid pins as the oil will stop there.

Both our TD5s have a modified harness .One still gets a little tiny bit of oil at the plug. I just clean it with brake cleaner each oil change as part of a service . Takes about 1 minute.
Big O, I plan on flushing the main harness over 2 or 3 days and then replace the Injector harness. I will also flush the injector harness and keep that as a spare for any future problems, but I will keep a close eye on it and clean the plugs with Contact Cleaner thoroughly at each service.
What is the 'modification' on your harness?
At about 320,000 km's, I had dramas with oil in the harness, The D2 just refused to start on occasions. I purchased a modified harness [ nothing more than some epoxy type substance placed in the cavity above where the harness exits the rocker cover, can't explain it better than that, but when you see a harness you will know what I mean. I check the ECU plug every oil change [ 5,000 km's with me] And no problems since. Took about 2 oil changes to find no oil . ] 352,237 km's at the moment. Bob

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
IanP the modification was the same as MR do. You simply take little plastic cover the one little little holes in it, off the injection harness male plug and work in some sensor safe sealant . One of them seems to be an almost complete success without any flushing. I don't really like the flushing idea as the insulation one those strands of wire is stiff already
