I like your temp fix...

Hi everyone. I thought i would share this with you . The driver side sls bag went off with a bang and i thought i had lost a wheel after the rear suddenly droped . This happened in the middle of arnhem land , i know i should have had a spare , but i didn't .What i did do was stuff the bag with pieces of rubber cut from an old tyre off the side of the road , just to get some sort of ride height back. I drove the next 250km very slowely i think it took about 12 hours .

was there any early signs of the bag leaking overnight etc
Is it a genuine or Arnotts air spring?

In an article I've seen tennis balls being used in a coil to support the weight, old tyre is an excellent alternative in an air bag. I keep this in the back of my mind, in case I don't have a spare...
I think it was branded "continental" and there was no warning when it blew. Lucky for me some people were headed out to the same place from adelaide the next day so ther droped into TRS and got me 2 more so now i do have a spare. When i replaced it and looked at the old tyre pieces from inside they showed a lot of ware . So i guess that saved some ware on the car. I am pretty impressed how it all held up , it was 250km of "rough as guts " road after the blowout. I do however need to replace the radius arm bushes in that side now.
Next time you have an airbag failure just grab the chainsaw and cut down an appropriately sized tree. Cut a log to the right length, insert and tie down with a ratchet strap.
The ride won't be comfortable but it will get you mobile again.
Have seen this done twice now so it does work.
Cheers,
Franz
