    TRS chip = ?

    TRS chip =

Just installed my new TRS chipped ECU in my 2000 Td5 manual with thanks to John (jf1056) and his Nanocom and laptop. All too easy in the end!!

I asked Phil from TRS for a chip that would be suitable primarily for extra torque for towing ... what a difference! (not that I've towed with it yet) It's not fast like a sports car but there's certainly more get up and go ... but it's now got some serious pulling power. She'll now accelerate from 60kms in 4th (around 1800-2000rpm) going up-hill !!!

    Certainly recommended!

Next stop ... straight through exhaust, EGR removal and EGT gauge.

Thanks again to everyone for their input.

    Cheers

    Craig

Funnily enough Craig I've just done the same to mine with a TRS Chipped ECU yesterday and it's certainly brought a smile to my face

Hey guys I have the trs chip in mine and I have just had the egr removal done when they fitted the new turbo couple of weeks back and have to say I'm not all that impressed. I expected better especially after the mod and new turbo. I have not been happy with its performance since I've had it. I never drove it before chipping as it was in the car when I got it but I reckon my previous unchipped td5 would eat this one for breakfast. I would be very keen for someone who has a td5 auto to take my vehicle for a run to see what they think and to compare it because I'm pretty disappointed with its go go power. Particularly someone with a chipped auto to try mine for comparison. My last td5 pulled the van like a gem and I feel this one is not a patch on the old one. Might be my imagination but geez I don't reckon its as good.
    Current td5 2001 auto 218k on it
    Previous td5 1999 auto 190k on it

Sorry to hear that Steve ... but I reckon the old girl's got another 20-30% more torque with the chip!
Maybe there's another issue with yours?

See if you can get a Intercooler from a D2a and you will notice even more improvement.

TRS usually have them come in. I thought the improvement was very noticable when I fitted one on my D2 when I had it.

Yep same here for me....certainly pushes me back in the seat when pulling away and I had the traction control light light up when I pulled out of a side junction yesterday
I have upgraded to a D2a I/C, Silicone Hoses, De-EGR'd, Airbox Mod, Safari Snorkel, modified exhaust....car is serviced regularly and shows no faults on Nanocom...drives really well..
As Disco EMU says, maybe there is another issue??

What is this "airbox mod" you speak of ... and theories and benefits?

It's where you remove the cyclone thingamajig in the air box. There is a thread on it in the tutorial section of this forum if I remember correctly.

Thanks guys unfortunately I never drove it before it had it put in. Its been a couple of years since I had my other td5 so the comparrison is a fair way apart, it does go ok but just hear everyone say how good a chipped one is and I dont know if mine is that good hence a second or third opinion. Its been awhile since the other one but I just feel that one went much better. Certain hills etc. A D2a I/C would be great but might be a way off yet. Mmmm I hope it does'nt have an issue, lol I've had enough of them
    Cheers guys

P.S My appologies for the thread hijack
