Td5's top speed is dictated by the noise level that you can handle...

I find my D2a, despite 32" tyres and 4" lift (meaning it's about 6" higher than factory) is still fantastically smooth at high speed. Actually it's smoother and quieter at 120km/h than it is at 50 - 60km/h by a long way (at this speed it's quiet rocky).
Having the larger tyres and the factory gearing, it's only doing around 2,200rpm at 120km/h. With the Ashcroft HD TC, VNT, larger intercooler and tune it feels like it has a large amount still to give!

I'd have to disagree with that last sentence. My previous ride was a worked 2004 Ford Ford BA Falcon XR6 Turbo and my current second car is a Ford Pursuit ute 5.6L V8, both are incredibly smooth at high speed. The base model Falcons might not be, but they're sports/performance models I find to be great!

I saw some post somewhere about a D1 with the middle east spec, where it was enable with a jumper wire somewhere, and an extra buzzer to let you know you're going too fast.

I'm glad we don't have it here.... the speed limits on many of the rural highways is 75 mph (120 km/h) so it would get very annoying. The Discovery seems to hold that speed just fine (even my old D1 did ok) but we do only have the V8, so that probably helps a bit at higher speeds.

When I got the call that my Grandfather was dying, my D2 cruised at 120MPH...

    ...but that was a V8.

Top speed varies a fair bit it seems, A mate has had 2 ,a '01 and an '04 classic country the '01 150 tops indicated and the '04 145 top. He has them rock stock, just buys and drives. Mine will pull past 155( ran out of straight) pre egr removal. not tested since, with it feeling like there is more. It has a freeflow muffler fitted.
Others have said 160, 130 sure he had handbrake on!! But this is fairly common in production cars, Dads stock 6cyl xw falcon would cruise on 70 mph all day, his mates same model and spec wouldnt do that downhill!

All the goodies you add and a slight head wind will all slow it down. Prior to the 130 limit in the NT with bull bar and roof rack on from memory it did not like going above mid 140s I think I was just able to squeeze 150 at some point on that trip on the speedo, not GPS. TD5 Auto
