Replacement lug nuts for a D2

Has anyone replaced their OEM D2 lug nuts for something else? I have the OEM ones currently that have the glossy lug caps. They are starting to look bad and getting hard to get off as the tyre shop mangled them during the last tyre rotation. Curious if others have replaced theirs...

No need to replace them if you look after them. For me they look as good as the day I bought the car. The only wheel nuts I did change were the security nuts. They are in recycle heaven. One of worst the engineered parts on the car, just behind the A pillar covers.

If I was you I would be asking the tyre joint to explain why there look so shabby. A lot of people on the forum ask how do you take the chrome cap off. You don't. The cap stays on even when removing the tyre. I'm thinking the tyre joint may have tried the same.

New nuts are $12 dollars each. Wreckers should have them cheaper.

    Regards

Well on this side tyre shops use the wrong socket usually a 12 point, and round the nut cap. Also tyre blokes use an air gun and a break socket stick which isn't the correct size and over tighten the plot.
Wrecking yards are a good source! I have a mate who owns a wrecking yard, he sells me good nuts for 5 bucks a pop.

    Question:-
Can you tell me the difference between a star gazer wrecking yard and a recycling outfit?

A star gazer wrecking yard is the guy behind the counter that looks skyward winces thinking about the part you want then says:-
You'll find it in the back 40 acres next to the red truck on the back seat!~
Do you have any star gazer yards down under???

The recycler uses a computer and it comes out repackaged with a bar code tag and it costs 200% more!

If you do use used wheel nuts do NOT use the nuts with the raised dimple on the cap---They are for the spare wheel only!

We have star gazers, just not a term I'm familiar with. We might refer to them as idiots or drongos. Recycler in the context I refer means a place which melts the material down and finds a new use for it. Could be re-born as ash trays. Still would be more useful than their current use a security wheel nuts.

you can buy just new covers: RRJ100120

The part number is actually associated with the locking wheel nut kits, but it works on the regular nuts too.

Also, if you have someone local that sells allmakes parts, they make an aftermarket nut that is a lot cheaper.
