Emergency: Coolant Dumping From Resoviour

I have checked all the hoses are connected..... its a TD5....... it has this other hole on the bottom..... there is the 2 pipes on the top the pipe on the side and a pipe on the bottom..... and this extra hole wich goes up into the resoviour for over an inch and a bit..... go out to your discoverys and have a look under it there is a moulded hole... its not on any diagram and its so hard to find a picture of the bottom of the resoviour haha so i dont know if its normal or not??? but even so the problem was never there untill this weekend also there is no pressure in any of the cooling system hoses?

I see what you refer too and it is part of the tank molding , However if it has a hole through into the the tank and coolant is leaking from it , Then I'm afraid you are in need of a new expansion tank :( It should be blank.

yea i got the td5 one

The expansion tank on the later model TD5 engine (EU3 spec) part number PCF101410 is the same as the V8.
The earlier TD5 (1999-2001) tank, part number PCF101420, has one less coolant pipe connection. (ie. it does not have the small nipple under the tank near the overflow pipe)

There is a moulded indentation (not a hole) on the bottom of both versions of the tank near the flat flange that locates the foward edge of the tank - I think that is the "hole" that maggotd2 is talking about.

When you get the old 1 off and into the light of day can you post a piccy of the damage and the possible reason for failure? Always nice to know why and how a part fails, it could be old age, abuse etc, or a manufacturing defect that we should look for. Although I have only ever had them crack around the joint on the TDi .
