    Wink Disco 2 ECU remap

Hi all, just wanting a bit of feedback for an ECU remap from TRS in Adelaide. I was interested in a remap from TRS and TD5Inside but since TD5Inside haven't bothered to answer my enquiry I guess I am going for the TRS unit.

I am really interested in knowing how you have felt about the upgrade, what are the upsides and any downsides.

TRS responded with a phone call (TD5Inside didn't respond at all) and after a chat I decided to go with sending my ECU to them and having them remap it for me. Can somebody give me a no bull**** appraisal of the TRS unit.

    Thanks in advance, Cheers, Rick.

    Hi Rick

I can't comment on the re-mapped ECU but I can tell you that my TRS chipped ECU (stage 1) is a massive improvement.

I believe that it's given me 25-30% more torque and the power delivery is smooth. I took it for a trip on the F3 (North of Sydney) to the central coast ('bout 45mins on the Freeway) for the 1st time on the w/e, rarely had to drop down to 4th gear and didn't feel like I was pushing the car hard at all. It's now a real pleasure to drive. Around town there's some extra acceleration when you need it.

I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like with my 1.5t camper trailer on the back.

Not sure about fuel economy as I've not filled it up yet but am thinking that it may be slightly worse as I'm using the accelerator a little more aggressively.

Downsides ... from what I've read, it increases your EGTs (exhaust gas temps) and can possibly warp the exhaust manifold. Just keep your revs up, don't labour the engine and don't push for too long-too hard.

TRS will tell you that there's just as much chance of warp manifolds with non-chipped ECUs. There are methods/principles to counter-act that too ... just do a search here. I've got an EGT gauge on the way so that I can monitor it that way and drive by the EGTs.

Having said all that ... mines only been in for 2 weeks.

    Just do it!

    Cheers

    Craig

Hi Discoemu, thanks for your reply. I also tow a trailer a lot of the time when off road and that's why I'm interested in a remap. I also have a D1 with a V8i and the only downside is the fuel economy, particularly when towing off road. The economy of the TD5 is pretty good so I am prepared to drop it a little in exchange for towing torque and a little extra power. Cheers, Rick.

Wich method did you use to contact us? Sometimes I´m competing with the 90" at 4x4 events and the answer takes a bit longer, but this is normaly at the weekends! I´m pretty sure I have no unanswered email @ our inbox!! The only explanation is a problem with our website contact form

Anyway, I dont like to let peolple waiting either regarding an enquirie or a remap service, so I apologise in advance.

If you need anything from us, please contact to td5inside@gmail.com!

    Regards

    Hi Jose

I sent an email to td5inside@gmail.com on Sun, 07 Oct 2012 16:29:56 and have had no reply.

I followed up with a different inquiry via pm on AULRO and got a reply within 48 hours - but the lack of response to the email has made me nervous to deal..... just letting you know - you might need to check that email after all.

    Thanks for the warning guys...

I´ve installed a new Anti-virus and firewall 2 or 3 weeks ago and It seems that both our contact form from the website and some email adresses are being marked as spam ...

Got it all sorted out I think and yes Franrick there is an email from you from 26/10.

I´v replied to all the recovered emails.

    Sorry for all the inconvenience,

    Regards,

    Smile

Hi Mate, my original message was via the "contact us" box on the TD5Inside web site.
My enquiry was in relation to a stage 2 remap for an '03 D2 td5. Basically, how much, what was involved and do I need to purchase a Nanocom, which I believe I do.
My enquiry was about 8 to 10 days ago.
I also approached another company who responded the same day with an email and followed the next day with a phone call.
On the strength of that phone call I decided to do my remapping with the other company.
If it takes 8 to 10 days to respond to my initial enquiry, what sort of after sales service could I expect.
    Kind regards, Rick.

Jose has been pretty quick in replying to my email in the past, to the point where it's often possible to exchange a couple of emails during a morning.

Not hearing back for week was very unusual.
