HOAT (at least the toyota stuff) is easy to spot when your looking at it in a containter it will appear to be one colour, when you pour it and the stream is lit all round it will appear another.

Dont ask me how or why it works but when I called up to ask toyota about it because I couldnt make heads nor tails of what I was seeing in the coolant analyser at work they explained it, you cant use the traditional optical testers on HOAT.

    for rovrV8.

if someone puts in the old school coolant or HAT or anything other than the OEM coolant for the reason of "the stuff that I put in instead doesnt leak" then they are short cutting maintenance.

you dont have to change anything to switch from ethyl glycol (traditional green) or OAT to Hoat (at least in theory on paper) nor to go from HOAT to either of those.

Best practice is that you flush the cooling system properly before you do.

    to flush out the TD5

I drain what I can from the block and the radiator capturing it as it comes out then I simply disconnect the heater hose (or any other convenient hose that the hose from my water tank will fit onto) and then flood the cooling system with the engine running until the water runs clear. onec thats done drain it out and add your portion of concentrate (you wont get all the water out)
then fill up (and i recommend the coke bottle method)

Ok, i think we've all made our point on what we use & why.
For the record i never stated

"the stuff that I put in instead doesnt leak"
I did state coolant thins out more than water, & red Oat seems to leak or weep worse than green.
Doesn't mean Im going to run water either
    Best of luck Scorpion625
