Thought I would post up a bit of information that I have learnt about the VNT options since purchasing mine, as I don't believe this is readily and easily available at present - this applies to both Discovery 2 and Defenders with TD5 motors. Credit goes to Benny_IIA for the bulk of this - I'm fairly sure he won't mind me putting it up.
There are three Stages of VNT available from Turbo Technics (although only two are listed at TD5 VNT hybrids - Turbo Technics , the third is listed in their master catalogue on page 19 http://www.turbotechnics.com/docs/catalogue.pdf ). I purchased my VNT from Bell Auto Services (TD5 Defender and Discovery Vnt Hybrid VGT Turbo | Diesel performance tuning and economy remap chip tuning for Landrover Defender Discovery TD5 Puma TDV6 TDV8), but they are just a reseller of the Turbo Technics products - likewise I believe IRB are.
Stage 1 Hybrid - S208-1 - 160HP
Stage 2 Hybrid - S208 - 180HP - this is the unit that BAS supply by default
Stage 3 Hybrid - S220 - 200HP
There is plenty of information on ehre already about the S208 and the benefits. Most of the VGT/VNT threads are referring to this unit. But to give a quick summary, I found no negatives from fitting it, and I received an increase in response, power and torque throughout the rev range with a peak boost pressure of 22psi, which is still safe for a standard engine - my other modifications include EGR removal, silicone hoses, larger Serk/Alive Tuning/TD5 Alive intercooler and high flowing 2 1/2" exhaust.
Here are comments from Benny_IIA on the S220:
When went to upgrade to the s220 I rang them direct and they agreed to sell me the turbo. It is not normally avavilbe from TT only from BAS or IRB in a special tunning package.
I think you made the right choice with the s208 you do loose some low end grunt with the bigger turbo. It is very violent in the power curve so makes it hard off road.
It also requires a bigger air box and dual intakes.
I'm going to run a second air box (K&N appoll) and move the MAF so the it feeds into a Y branch then into the MAF.
It also requires upgrading of the flexy intake pipe from the turbo as it sucks it flat.
The power figures from TT are very conservative.
i have seen a s208 with just over 200 hp and s220 can make 240+.
The top end power is alot more it pulls very hard to the rev limiter.
Td5 inside are working on a stronger map then there current stage 3+++ map for my larger turbo.
I'm also getting a custom manifold my apt fab which will be a 5 into 1 collector manifold. Instead of there normal 'log' manifold.
