The Rangie 4.6 and the USA market 4.6 in the D2a update in Michelle, although allegedly not as bad due to the blocks being x-rayed by LR and the thicker/more consistent castings going to the 4.6 assembly (ie same bore diameter, but stroked to 4.6). I dont know though whether there is much truth in that - plenty of 4.6's with problems.

    Cheers

When I replaced my 4.0 I had the 4.6 apart and it's appearance wise at least a better casting and finish to it. It also goes much better with virtually no penalty at the bowser.

Yep mate - its straight cubes with longer stroke. Has to go harder all things being equal, and it means you dont have to rev it as hard to go the same pace - can hold lower gears etc. I will report soon as to how the 4.0 goes with some mild head work and better cam.

    Cheers

2003 auto, 105,000km. had it for a year now and love the way it drives on and off road. Its had a bit of a beating, rear bumper got pulled off, front bumper got split, passenger mirror got smashed as i slid down a wet hill into a tree, bush pinstripes, roof racks got taken off by a low tree, replaced front prop shaft, replaced 4x brake rotors and pads, passenger window reg.
my missus laughs but me and the boy love goin out in it.
used to get about 600/450 on a highway/4x4 but now a bit worse since i put the 32" tyres on.

Dave covered most with his list.
For info, 2004 D2a Adriatic Blue S, 79,374 on the clock when I bought it in 2010, just over 106,000 now & was in mint condition. Just a bit of fair wear & tear and never truely off road (I think gravel only). Had the drivers door lock mechanism replaced under warranty and put in a new battery after the dealer crapped on about flattening it after leaving the doors open (interior lights shut themselves off d/head). Then developed mild head gasket leaks and the inveitable THREE AMIGOS, other than that all good (he says hanging onto the table). Struggle to get more than 550km on the open road, usually around 500km per gauge from above full to E, mind you love giving it a boot full contstantly. Run 265/75R/16 Summit Mud Hogs on P38 three spoke 16 inch rims, work a treat.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
