buying a side awning what size

Well i have finally decided to buy a side awning for my Disco 2, my issue is what size should I get?

As you know they come in 2 sizes mainly
    1. 2m lenght x 2.5m out
    2. 2.5m lenght x 2m out

what size do you have and would you get that size again? do you find it roomy enough, i have 3 kids.

any issues with fitting it to the Disco 2 roof rails, i have rola roof racks as well.

    cheers again

I would go for the 2.0m unit as it matches the roof length of the disco, if you go the 2.5m it will stick out a fair way past your windscreen and increase the chance of it getting caught and ripped off.

I have an old one 2.7--2.3 has serviced me well but was always just a little small I had a new one made up 4--3m ,I use a box section sail track and thread it on when I get to my destination if needs be I disconnect from my roof racks and can be left free standing, cost about $300 for tarp and use an old boom sail track[WORKS WELL] connected to racks with muffler clamps

    x2 ^^

IMHO most side mounted awnings are too small to provide protection from anything much.

For over 30 years now I've been using a 12' x 18' (tarp attached to the rear and pegged down to the ground on one side. Gives good protection in most weather conditions except when you get strong wind and rain together - then an additional small tarp on the side usually does the trick.

I agree with the first part of Extreme's comments. So I bought a foxwing and an additional side tarp to suit. Absolutely fabulous. Do a search, I think it was Fluids who put up some great pics.

Got a 2.5m length ARB awning (surprise, surprise), on the side of my D2.
Love it, great size, handles rain, gives plenty of shade/cover.
Best thing is you don't need to carry extra poles/ropes etc, all contained in the bag.
Can use it for a 5 min cuppa stop or camp under it with the swag.

I've had both the 2.5x2.0m is easier to put up but as stated the 2.0x2.5 is less likely to snag on anything or stick out

    Cheers
