Smokin V8
Bit of a story and a question for the guru's. I went out to my fave spot in the Perth hills this weekend just gone and tried to tackle a steep ascent. I didn't make it the first time so i thought I'd best get out and have a look for the best line but booger me! when I did I saw smoke coming out from under the Disco, had a look and found oil on the exhaust around the transmission area. I got back home and ended up removing the center console and gear selectors to find what I believe to be the source of the problem = trans oil coming out of the breather.
What would be the likely cause? going up too steep a hill? trans getting too hot? (no trans temp warning lamp though) over full trans (removed fill bolt and had fluid gently pour out)
While I was rooting around I also noticed that the breather for the transfer case was letting go of a fair amount of oil too.
Disco is a V8, 32" tyres but other wise stock. Other relevent things was that the HDC warning lamp started to glow amber, i was in low range with the torque converter locked (not sure if that is the best thing when going up rock hills). I havent undone the fill plug since that day so I sdont know how much more fluid would have come out.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts...
