I had the same trouble with mine and managed to get it to work by moving the rod that conects the handle to the latch . The back of the handle has two holes in it . If you remove the rod and locate it on tne other hole it gives it extra leverage and makes the rod move down further.You have to rotate it 180 and also move the plastic bit that the rod sits in . This has got mine working again , hope it helps you out.

Thank Freedriver, did as you suggested (just completed) and now operational. I was entertaining the idea of needing to purchase a new lock.
When it feels a little stiff get out the air compressor and blow the dust out of the latch . works for me and should prolong its life But I am budgeting for a new 1 .
