D2 Series 2 Removing Head Unit - help

    Hi All,

I have intermitent speaker performance and I assume the head unit is on way out as all connections at speakers seem solid and speakers operate intermittent so I am thinking head unit

I need to remove the head unit and then I will bell cables and check resisstances etc to see if I see the correct speaker impedence

Problem is how do I remove head unit. I thought it would be just allen keys in the holes but not having any luck picking up a hex head (2mm)

Any advise as to how to get this out all vids or pics appear to show a another method and flat tool which inserts into slopt (DIN Tool I think)

Further I assume there are no amps and it is a straight 4 speaker system with fronts utilising tweeters and crossovers as there are tweeters in the pillar

Further if anyone has changed what have they done for a surround of the new head unit as the unit appears 1.5 DIN and any recommendation as to a headunit for a straight swap

You need two bits of wire bent in a U shape. Coat hangers are perfect. Push the ends of the U into the two holes until you feel a bit of resistance then push a bit further. Ithis will release the catches and you can pull the head unit.

The slot for the radio is actually 1 DIn.

There are lots of threads on replacing the head unit. Do a search and you'll find lots of good information.

    Cheers

If you have the tailgate door subwoofer then its an 11 speaker system with amp.

No mate just the six and no amp. Research shows it will be a straight swap for something with ISO plugs according to posts. Looks like biggest issue will be the 1/2 DIN filler plate as most aftermarkets are single DIN

    Thanks for hlep

No need for a filler plate, they look fine without. The factory unit has a deep front, the more "standard" units sit a bit further back and there is a plastic part of the dash there already under the DIN slot.

You may want a trim piece like this:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Metra-89-9400-Mountable-1994-2004-Discovery/dp/B000K52CWE/"]Amazon.com: Metra 89-9400 DIN Mountable Trim Plate for 1994-2004 Land Rover Discovery Vehicles (Black): Car Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/113-nP6hHoL.@@AMEPARAM@@113-nP6hHoL[/ame]

If you don't already have one. It's available from the dealer also.
