Umm... What are you quoting THAT for?

Nothing to do with the thread in any way!

    Oh and I've had 5.0l supercharged v8s...
And a naturally aspirated 700bhp 304ci VK Calais.
Amazing what money can buy when you're mates with one of Mr Perkins!

all I did was give you the standard D4 V8 specs,, in case you actually hadnt tried it on at a set of lights.

    That's what had me puzzled..

Posting D4 V8 specs in a D2 thread. I didn't see the comparison as relevant.

Since we seemed to have started another V8 or diesel debate can I offer the following?

As I have owned, driven and maintained both variants ofthe D2 first V8 then a Td5, maybe we can all agree with the following: (In stock factory trim unmodified)

    The V8:

    Is quicker to 100kph

Smoother acceleration nicer to drive around town.

Drinks 30% more fuel than the td5

More likely to suffer catastrophic engine failure (due to slipped liners)

    Sounds better (V8 rumble)

Dated low tech, pushrod flat tappet cam engine

    The Td5

    Better for towing.

More low end torque for the long slow hills

    30% less fuel the V8

Will achieve more miles/km before rebuild necessary

    That vibration at around 2200rpm!

Can be modified for better performance far cheaper than V8

    Holds its value/resale better

I think reliability is about the same given issues with both!

I am only referring to the rover V8 not V8s in general from other manufacturers.

    Regards
    Glenn

sorry that just really really made me laugh, there is only one way the td5 is better then a v8 and thats economy, and not by much, my thor motor averages 12.3-12.6l/100km depending if i have the aircon running or not....

You must drive it with a zeal for economy that borders on religious!

Didn't notice too many issues when I was out for a drive today from Brunswick -> Jam Jerrup -> Brunswick. It's a 220km round trip so has barely put a dent in the fuel level - down 1.5 marks. Filled the tank last night "just in case", but most servo's I drove past had diesel still listed on the price boards. I saw a couple of places yesterday that had the "----" under Diesel however.

Spoke to a friend in darwin and apparently it's $2-/L at the moment. Everyone running to buy petrol vehicles.

I've had some discussion with Mark Adams about the chipping and also spoke to Justin at Lucky 8 in New York about using a genuine 4.6 D2 ECU from over there. Issues there are SAI vs nonSAI and also the extra o@ sebnsors (which could be added here). Then there's the option of running a piggyback which will work around the OEM security, quite well from experience. I've run both Motec and Autronic now to test.

As stock I have a load of pinging which may be the natural leanness of the system added to the extra capacity causing it to be even worse. Or it's been suggested that it may be a MAF issue. Need to borrow a known one to compare.
