Ahhhh, it lucky I got rid of the Prado then. While I bought a nice old V8 Disco 2 for offroad, I also bought a new VW CC diesel for work. I only got it a couple of weeks ago and have just gone through the first tank. It managed to get 1,112 km from a tank which I think is 68 liters. Very happy with that and as people who know me would agree, I don't drive with a light foot. :D
Yeah it sounds like I would.... But honestly I'm quite heavy footed, most days I travel up the blue mountains and make 80% of my gear changes at 3000rpm, I bought the vehicle expecting to get around 15l/100km and for the first 3-5 tanks thought I must have been using the wrong formula or doing something wrong so after checking with my father (maths genious lol) I was quite impressed, even when towing my 14ft boat my fuel consumption was only 12.8l/100km, so I'm now looking at getting it chipped out at Davis out at annongrove cause he said he can garentee an extra 100km per tank so for the $600 his charging for the chip I thought it was a bargain not to mention a few extra ponies wouldn't go astray lolQuote:

yes standard fuel tank, i believe is a 95 litre, ive never run it right down but i get between 630-660km off 80L, i only run BP ultimate (unless they only have premium like alot of service stations out west) or shell optimax if there isnt a BP around, also every 10000km i run a full bottle of nulon injector cleaner and a full bottle of octane boost/cleaner together as ive done on all my cars, my tyres are cooper discoverer AT3 235/70 R16, every one i talk to tells me thats really good economy even gary from CLR 4x4 said that was really good, bruce davies said he thought it may already be chipped untill i told him i still have the flat spot between just under 3000 to about 4000, its only got 137000km on it and its been immaculatly maintained to the point my mechanic went from hating discoverys to becoming a convert and seeing the light...lol he told me not to buy one, then when he serviced it told me its the best nick one his ever worked on and he was now thinking about getting one to tow his daughters horses around if he found one in as good a nick as mine hahahah, i am going to get it chipped earlie next year if it already hasnt been done {fingers crossed} cause if i get the extra 100km per tank then that would bring my fuel consumption down to just under 11L/100km!!Quote:

The best I can ever get is about 15 from my V8 and that is when cruising and going very easy. Round town it's more like 19.

The best I've managed out of my 2000 Td5 is driving across to the Flinders Ranges where I had a couple of tanks that were in the very low 9's. A recent trip to Wilson's Prom and back I did 10.1L/100KM. On the other hand I drove to work most days for a week and a bit (a 10km trip in melbournes inner north with more time spent at lights than moving) plus a day puddling around the Western Treatment Plant with a lot of time spent just above idle and got 14.1L/100km.
I see where Tombie is coming from with the tyre sizes. Larger tyres than stock will cause the odometer to under-read, and therefore you'll underestimate L/100Km.

Its amazing how much extra grunt it takes to push wind at 100kph versus 90kph in a Rover (brick!)...my D1 manual posted up the fuel figures for those speeds but the D2's doesnt. It also adds to the fuel usage considerable having roof racks, big tyres, bull bar, LPG tanks etc.

Yeah I have steel bar, roofrack and plywood drawers which would';nt help and I'm running standard size road tyres too. Even without the rack I still get eleven to the hundred.Without the drawers and rack I can get into the high 10's but 11/100 out of a V8 is extraordinary I think. With figures like that who'd buy a diesel?. Keep that disco mate one out of the box me thinks!;)
If you take off the roof rack and bullbar, and rip out lard like dual battery and draw systems you'll get a major improvement in economy!Quote:
