Thread: Connecting a new stereo to a diesel td5

I had a similar issue with my Disco [I had a surf before but didn't have the issue with that ] in my case it turned out that the battery connectors were lose (I found this out after the car wouldn't start and the alarm reset etc. and the RAC had to come out, but that's a different issue).

Anyway, it's a quick check to see if they are loose and tighten the bolts - after that somebody with more knowledge than me will have to help you out if that doesn't fix it!

Most times there is a yellow wire that needs to be connected to a power supply that has a constant supply of 12v power.(doesn't switch on and off with key). Red wire goes to acc (turns on and off with key). that switches the unit on and the yellow wire holds the memory to the unit. It sounds like the memory wire is connected to a switching power supply.

(Red wire to Accessory (power side of the ignition at the fuse level). Yellow wire to fused battery powered fuse-box.) Sorry. I was thinking of my old Surf.

The yellow wire is within the ISO plug which just plugged straight in.

Battery leads clean and tight - This is a new battery as well.

This is what is wired on the factory iso power plug:
D2 Grey ISO socket

C0098-1 PO - Position Open??
C0098-2 Slate/Black - Steering Remote (mid line)
C0098-3 Slate/Red - Steering Remote (mid line)
C0098-4 Purple -> Memory Backup/Permanent Power (via Fuse 20)
C0098-5 Red/Blue -> Amplifier Power (High Line)
C0098-6 Red/Brown - > Switch - Lighting
C0098-7 Light Green/Purple -> Switched Power
C0098-8 Black -> Earth

Have you checked if this matches up with the way the head unit or ISO adapter is wired. Apparently some manufacturers reverse the permanent +12V and switched so I wouldn't assume it was right.

Sounds like a poor connection somewhere, that is starving the radio of power when cranking. Check power and earth connections on radio and starting circuits.

All done and works great with none of those reset problem. The ISO plug was correct - this time.
