Amen to that.
Now I've gone a spent some dough on head work and cam etc I have signed up for about another 10 years at least with my d2 and it's funny how many more of them I am noticing. Coming back from the north coast yesterday was another Bonati Grey d2 (update) in td guise raised with all the kit. He was doing 120 and sailing along. Then at some lights at Corro drive there were 5 cars and 3 were d2 all pre face lift.... They are everywhere! It's good to see more and more being owned by devotees with kit on them.
Cheers
Amen to that.
certainly a much underrated model, a good example can be had quite cheaply now. have recently had 2 ex jap 4x4 owners buy them and couldn't be happier with the ride and performance, on and offroad.

I think people are waking up to the fact that the D2 is a bit of a gem.
A digital version of Land Rover Monthly's Discovery MagBook (which is pretty much a compilation of articles from back issues) came out on Apple Newsstand yesterday (and possibly Zinio too) and makes for interesting reading. I was a bit surprised at the amount of D2 coverage - I was half expecting wall to wall D1's.
One article on Overlanding points to the base model Td5 with no ACE or SLS as being the current best choice for an Overlander that isn't going to be used for extreme expedition work. The argument made is that the 200 and 300tdi D1's are getting long in the tooth and the lack of rear storage space is limiting. D3's and D4's on the otherhand have too many electronics (sound familiar). The D2 considered best option because of the extra storage space, comfort as a long distance tourer, and the ability to follow a Defender just about anywhere off road.
cheers

I think the D2 will be the next RRC.
Up until now, the problem has been fitting large tyres and price.
I have just bought a D2 with plans to get it as capable as my Rangie Ute but with a lot more comfort. It already has a 4.6 on sequential gas with bar, winch, lockers etc etc.
There are a couple of kits now that will allow the fitting of 35's. I need to fit some new softer springs, good shocks.
I am looking at the Les Richmond kit that lifts the vehicle 4" but then drops all the suspension components 2". This is their way of legally getting around the "no body lift" problem with SRS vehicles. It seems like a good way of tackling the problem but love to here what others think.
I also need to get a Recaro seat. I have not had a D2 for a few years now and had forgotten how much I hated the cramped driving position.
Did Lawrance sell the D2 to you?
Yes he did.. It wasn't as if was using it for anything.

Walker, are you particularly tall? I love the position, especially since you actually sit behind the wheel not offset to one side.
Lifted, 32's, winch, stereo, UHF, ACE bypass, 4.6, comfort. What more do you need?
