    I believe it's the same capacity, plus or minus a cc or two, as the D1, but it
    is referred to as a 4.0 in the D2.
    Apparently because Jeep had a 4 litre, the marketing boys in Solihull decided that they could not be outdone.

    I had heard a different story, which was that they "rebranded" it being the 4.0 to make it seem like a totally different engine from the "terrible, unreliable" 3.9.

    In making the minor changes, I think the capacity went from 3947cc to 3950cc.
