"THAT WILL TEACH YOU TO DAMAGE ME"!!!!!!!![]()
OK I have a disco 2 2003 TD5 auto. It has exhibited some fairly wierd behaviour in the past, but this one takes the cake!
The other day I had an altercation with a brick gatepost.Fair scratch along lh front door. OK, my fault. BUT! since then the talgate will not unlock with the fob or the dash switch. Locks fine, but to unlock I have had to rig a rope from the inside handle hanging over the back seat. Yank and it's open. Locks OK with the fob.
Now go figure that one you LR boffins! (please!)

Pretty common. Try cleaning the lock mechanism and then lubricating. It gets dust and crud in it. Most likely a coincidence that it started when you scraped The bricks. If you need more info there have been plenty of discussions about this in previous threads.
yup dust can be the culprit
After a very dusty trip high country trip recently i started to notice the same symptoms on my rear doors and tailgateThe dust didn't get past the door seals and into the cabin but it sure filled those enclosed surface areas where the door closes into the body opening and a goodly amount also got into the latch mechanisms as well. Now when i pressure wash the truck i also open the doors and give those enclosed areas a squirt as well (they're usually full of mud
not dust) and this time i thought i would give the latches a gentle spray to clean off the dust - i then left the doors open for a few hours to dry out the latch mechanisms - and she's all good again mate!!
Since then I've puffed some graphite into the latches so they have some lubrication. i'm wary of fluid lubricants because to my mind they will just attract and encourage dust fouling in the future.
onebob
just buy a new latch
