Thanks. Yes, have a cooler thermostat sitting here, I just have to install it. It is amazing the difference in under bonnet temp between the old Rangie and the Disco. Both are running 4.6l motors on gas but the Disco is soooo much hotter.
I don't mind the engine/water temp running at 95-100 deg as this is not a bad thing and as long as it stays below 105 then it is not a problem and probably better than running too cold. However the high underbonnet temp does worry me. As you say, it is hot enough to cause problems with other components.

I actually wondered if anyone has tried installing vents or grills in the bonnet, I am thinking it might make a bit of difference.

ok yas got me interested, whats a nanocom { im guessing some sort of plug in devise for reading engine sensors} how much are they and where do i get one lol, and adam ive thought this myself on many occasions ive got an 00 build 01 australian model v8 and even for a v8 it seems to run pretty warm, the gauge sits one needle width above halfway and has since ive owned the car but i get an icredable amound of heat coming into the cab of the vehicle and also when i pop the bonnet its hot enough to cook a roast dinner! ive always been a little worried about it but a mates dad {LR and RR nut} says its nothing to worry about but if i ever see the needle creeping up even slightly pull over turn it off wait 3-5 mins turn it on for about 10 secs then off again and repeat the process for 20-30mins while you wait for a tow truck or mate with a car trailer, im assuming so the hot coolant isnt sitting in the jackets and warping the heads mabey....

Basically it's a diagnostic tool which can access every ECU (except the Hella CC) on the D2. There is an instrument mode which gives access to a range of data, however the display layouts are not user editable. Cost is roughly $400-450 shipped from the manufacturer in Cyprus.

If you just want a gauge with OBDII ability -- a good solution for the V8 D2 which has comprehensive OBD-II coverage -- there are better options.

Thanks Mike, but do I really want to destroy my nice Landrover by installing Pooootrol stuff on it. :p. but seriously, do you have any pics, I really think this would make a big difference.

Dan, I just got my Scan gauge, only took 2 days to be delivered and cost $159. The temp gauge on the D2 is next to useless as it doesn't move until its too late. I was going to put in a VDO temp gauge, but it was cheaper and easier to get a scanguage which will monitor many parameters and work as a trip computer.
I will be getting a nanocom before the big Cape trip next year.

I would also love to hear if people think Nanocom is the best way to go or if there are other better diagnostic equipment around.
