    nanocom temp readings

    Hi all
Just been for trip to Cobar, i use nanocom in instrument mode to keep an eye on coolant temp.On way out to Cobar temp as normal,89 to 92deg and rise to 98deg on long hills ( towing trailer-approx 750kg ). This has been normal for my car since i have had it 5 years. On return trip temp stayed around 94 to 98 and up to 109 on hills.Never ran hot before even in 40 deg ambient temps. Even without trailer on it running around the 94 mark. I have installed new thermostat and new temp sender unit and borrowed cooling fan from mate, none off it made a difference. Will try and borrow temp probe and check temp at sender unit tomorrow.Any other ideas would be appreciated. Car is a 04 td5.BD chip and incooler.

    cheers Ecka

Coolant levels okay? Not using water? The independent temp check is a good plan, sounds as if the radiator is not doing its job but unusual to suddenly happen, generally its a steady decline, unless the nano has had a hissy check ALL the hoses for softness but apart from that next is the radiator.

When did you last have the radiator serviced and coolant replaced?

It's likely to be a blocked core on the Rad... (Or mud between rad and condenser)

I'd tend to agree with Tombie. My beastie sat on 94 - 98 in normal operations until I replaced my radiator, coolant etc in preparation for the circle trip. Now sits on 88 - 89 and only up to 94 max so far after being worked reasonably hard, apart from 1 x 97 whlst towing hard which activated my alarm and froze the Evo - all readings like you taken from my Nanocom

    Thanks guys
Coolant level good, rad flushed and new oat coolant approx 12 months ago and clean between rad and condensor. Should have mentioned only 130,000 km on clock so i would have thought rad would still be good. I also thought it was strange to suddenly just happen.Hopefully check with other temp gauge will reveal more.

I wonder how different the V8's are. I have a scan guage and it says I run 96-98 when warmed up and goes up to 102 under load. I haven't had it on any big trips yet but it seems to run a bit hotter than your TD5's.

My Td5 was the same. Replaced the entire cooling system components and they all looked perfect. I even pulled apart the radiator and it was clean as a whistle, I think my issue was the thermostat so maybe change that first

    yep, thats about right Adam
everything has to be perfect on the V8's, but rarely are.
You can change the thermostat to a cooler one which is a great idea, The underbonnet temps are hot enough to melt the plastic split conduit I run my spark plug leads in--

    V8 temps 2000 auto

My V8 runs 90 deg when cruising at between 60 and 110 km/h, same if towing my off road camper of about 1.2 t. Runs up to about 93 in stop - start traffic. Will go to 94 - 95 if I have to stop at lights after travelling at 80 km/h. Don't think I have ever seen it above 95, not even towing up long hills (2,000 ft). Idling for long periods temp sits on 93 - 94. Temps measured using a Scangauge2.

Replaced radiator about 2 years ago due splitting at top. It appeared to be clean but suspect there was gunk build-up at the bottom.

However my cylinder head temp (measured by Watchdog) used to read 92 most of the time , but now reads 97.
