No, we have to use certified for all a/c work - big fines otherwise if you get caught!

Thanks Brad - he's back on 2nd Jan, so will call him then.
Northiam - good thinking!
Cheers Gavin
Mine did the same thing 2 summers ago.
It ended up being the earth wire (black wire) that ran around the front of the cylinder head to the compressor. The engine cover had been rubbing on it and broke it, so there was no complete circuit. Maybe check that, because mine just stopped like yours.
FEEDBACK
Doug the mobile A/C man as recommended by Bradtot called in today after getting delayed by others last week. Turned out to be a stuffed relay in the engine bay, so was very happy to pay a basic callout rather than sell the farm for a new system.
On my defender a relay has been wired in so that when reverse is selected it activates the air conditioner compressor .This makes the seals last longer and increases the time between regases:):):)
Hi Gavin
Good outcome! It's nice to hear it wasn't major surgery.
Which reminds me, I need to get a set of relays for the spares kit.
Steve
Yep a happy camper - I didn't realise that relays can go (like fuses?) - but I know now.
