    Snorkels

Working my way through repairs and enhancements and next is a snorkel. There seem to be about 5 options - the Safari, Mantec, Scintex, Full Boar and the kits thru British4WD.

There is a big price range from about $200 - $550.

Looking at previous threads the Mantec and Safari seem to be the best quality and most expensive.

But has anyone tried the Scintex, Full Boar or B4WD units?

Most recent repairs were 2" lift (Ulimate Suspension kit) and the TM2 Combo (low coolant and head temp). Suspension is way better than it was and I enjoy the comfort of the TM2!

    thanks

    Question sockinph

my 04 td5 has a safari snorkel we had fitted about 3 years ago and has paid for itself a couple of times aleady.some fairly deep river crossings in the kimberly and just getting home from the club in hedland after getting 40ml of rain in an hour. i paid for the instal as i couldn,t bring myself to cut into perfectly good panels. still adding the weight before doing the suspension.did your suspension cost you much? i was going to get springs from dobinson or kings but the jury is still out on the shocks.

The place I work at sell a huge range of snorkels and believe that the Airflow snorkels are the best, Safari might look better but for what they are designed for Airflow's design is better

Fitted a Safari with good results if you are doing it yourself watch for side ways movement of the hole saw (if used) as the pilot bit in the center can enlarge the center hole in the aluminium allowing the saw side movement
Use sensor safe sealant. The bottom of the air filter box had holes that needed sealing. I think there is a tutorial on here somewhere

I fitted a Southdown 4x4 snorkel. It's similar to a Mantec except stainless steel. The Southdown snorkel also gets rid of that piece of flexible coupling that falls apart just prior to the D2 airbox. Southdown are happy to assist with any questions about installation too.

For my 2 cents worth, the snorkels that go through the inside of the guard are better and a stronger fit, as the snorkel(metal tube) fits snuggly into a hole in the guard versus a plastic snorkel being on the outside of the guard and held on by a few set screws that are holding onto some plastic. I have seen film of the external type snorkels popping off the guard in relatively minor accidents and was amazed at how inadequate metal screws holding plastic can be.

    Cheers,

    Jason

The Southdown snorkel looks great and would put to rest any worries I had about the Safari snorkel restricting air flow. But now I just have to work out what to do with the whopping great hole left if I remove the safari snorkel.
