    Dreaded tailgate door help needed

    Hi all,

I've been searching through these forums because the back door on my discover series 2 has stopped unlocking with the central locking and only unlocks if you crawl over the back seats and do it from the inside. It seems to be a common problem and the way to solve it is take out the locking mechanism and clean and lube it or replace it. I am just stuck on taking the locking mechanism out and would like some if available, I have removed everything connecting it that I can see but was wondering if there is a trick to getting it out or something holding it from above.
It's full of dust because I recently bought it off my dad who took it into the wild.

    Thank you

It's been a long time since I had mine out and can't remember if there was a trick.
From memory I undid 2 or 3 clips for the rods(I think the lock button one stayed on)
There are 3 torques head screws that hold it to the door.
I changed mine to std bolts and washers as there was room for them when the door shut.
    Cheers, Kyle

I had he same problem a few months ago and appreciate your frustrations.

I can't see clearly from your picture but once you disconnect all the levers and electrics and undo the bolts, it's just a matter of wriggling it around until you find the right position and it will just slip out.
A good was out and lublicate with some teflon spray lube - don't use graphite or grease as it'll attract the dust.
Then you'll have the fun part all over again as you put it back in and align everything.

Good luck - I hope you discover the right position without too much trouble.

I recently had problems with the tailgate locking mechanism. I found that it was necessary to remove a self tapping screw used to attach the registration plate to the door skin. After that it was relatively easy to remove the lock.
I cleaned the mechanism thoroughly, lubricated the internals with Lithium spray grease & the externals with a dry silicon spray.
Repositioned the link on the exterior handle to the second hole. Working OK now.

I removed that self tapping screw but can't seem to work the mechanism around a bolt in place under the tailgate handle. (Pictured....poorly)
I figure I could remove this bolt if I can remove the cover but not sure on how to do this. Once again any help greatly appreciated. Or if you have a better thought on getting the mechanism out.
    Thank you

mine came out with lotsa wiggling after disconnecting all the rod clips and the three torx bolts.

nothing else was required, except lotsa wiggling and manouvering of the latch to find the exit path.
