Thread: Original Windscreen Broken - Replacement?

I had mine changed 6 months ago by Instant Windscreens in Fyshwick. They ordered it directly from LR - was about $600 as far as I know. However, when replacing the screen they bent the long front plastic cover that seals the front screen - AAMI fixed this damage after my complain. If you change your screen, follow the RAVE instructions carefully otherwise you end up with a bent cover with 2cm gaps between the windscreen and the cover like I did. J

I could get one from the UK from these guys. Postage might be a problem but recently I just purchase 30kg of shock abosrbers from them for ~$120 postage.

Part Number is CMB101040.

I changed my screen due to a leak developing when I park on an incline with the nose down hill. Didn't develop any other time.

The other issue is the covers on the side pillars. Very average design and they are a throw away item on the +8 year old car. Very hard to re-use due to the internal plastic clip.

The side pillars are ~$74 each. The windscreen joint could get lucky but not likely with the remove/replace of these.

I would also take photos prior to delivering the car. Photos of the seals, pillars, wipers, plenum etc. My experience was, " that's how it was when it arrived here". BS. Not enough care was taken plain and simple.

Mine was done through insurance ---O'BRi......S they would not garentee the plastic sill on the bottom and of couse broke the bloody thing ---seems like brit plastic doesn't like the sun so now up for a new one will be getting it from england as dear as here

I purchased one from the UK some time back. Still cheaper than in OZ. Pretty sure the part was $170 at the time. A wrecker quoted me the same for the part. No brainer. Not chasing a sun baked special. I think your pillar covers are stuck on with silastic, or at least one anyway.

If you define acceptable as "made of glass, and fits" yes. If you want something that matches the tint of the pilkington and doesn't screw with the air-conditioning by allowing more light to fall on the sensor, then no.

And definitely take photos. The WOB's operative managed to break the plenum on mine in 5 places, and I had one of the a-pillar trims almost blow off. "We'll look into it " was the response, but of course I never heard from them.

Haven't had much luck with WOB my previous windscreen repair on a Pug 405 resulted in blocked sunroof drains and a flooded car the next time it rained.

Needless to say I'm not a fan.

Yes, but because the glass doesn't seem to be as tough as the pilkington it will only stop small birds.

I forgot to mention the fitter had to come back a second time because the windscreen didn't seal and soaked the headlining on the passenger side when it rained.

I've obviously managed to erase most of the experience from memory!

After a long and protracted episode with WOB, I finally got a Pilks OEM screen fitted. The vehicle went back 5 times for repair/screen replacement, with gracious treatment by WOB each time.

But each time, the glass was obviously faulty, with facets on the curved edges which then failed to seal to the opening.

It was not the fitters' or the branch manager's fault, but the screens were not up to the required standard. As a result of my referred complaint (to Sydney HO), inspections of stock of Disco 2 screens occurred and many were condemned and destroyed.

The problem we as consumers have is that we don't stand our ground.

As for fitter incompetence (as distinct from competence), if you have damage occur to your car when the screen is fitted, or there is consequential damage, take the problem up with the branch manager ASAP. Keep all the records involved.

Make sure that the National Training Manager of WOB (or whoever you're unhappy with) gets contacted (by you, preferably) to alert him/her to the lack of competence of whoever fitted your glass.

I had water damage to the headliner (just recently recovered), water damage to the floor when a leak test was done after install, but the drain holes had been blocked by polyurethane swarf and used razor blades and lastly the ICE head unit was destroyed by water ingress thrugh the peak of the screen.

The outcome?

I got the windscreen I thought should have been fitted in the first place, after instructing my insurer to direct it so.

I replaced the head unit with Alpine cd135ebt and have been compensated in full.

I have used WOB for many years on all sorts of cars, including LRs. I could not fault their followup. But like every big company you deal with, they're in it for the dough, and they will try to snow you if they can. Just don't let them!!!
