Battery Voltage
Had my 04 D2a TD5 on the computer the other day to reset some codes. And my madman was complaining of low voltage (car not running).
Do other people have the voltage drop down to the 11.6v when not running but ignition on?
Just deciding if I should buy a new battery before they rebuild my auto again. or leave it till after. As the M&S light came on yesterday. I am thinking low voltage maybe the issue for the M&S lights. Mind you the auto made some (insert rude word here) sounds noises at the same time.
Once running I get a reliable 13.8v.

Depending on where the voltage is being read, you can get voltage drop between the battery & the volt meter. For example I have a digital voltmeter permanently wired to the interior light & mounted above the mirror & with the interior light on I get 11.9v, with the light off 12.4v & with the engine runninganything between 13.7 & 14.3v. A multineter across the battery terminals reads 12.8v
Volts isn't everything though, I once had a nominal 800CCA battery reading 12.8?, but not able to put out enough current to start the engel. An auto electrician or battery specialist should be able to test it for you
Cheers,
Alex

I have an EMS that beeps at me with low voltage (11.3V) when I hop in the car in the morning. My battery is a new optima D34. I suspect it due voltage drop as I didnt connect the EMS direct to the battery, but to a power source under the dash - the ign barrel to be exact (ACC on).
When driving, i get the 12.4V for memory so I dont worry about it too much.

Like Alex110 I have a digital voltage monitor wired in by the interior light but using an ACC circuit. With ignition just on it rests at 11.6 to 11.8. With the engine running it happily sits between 13.2 and 14.6 depending on what else is switched on
I used to worry about the low voltage at rest, but after 3 years with the same battery that was in the TD5 when I bought it, I can focus on other areas of my Disco to worry about

Well on that. I will wait till either it starts giving me other signs of a dogy battery. Or my care factor gets higher.
Either way that want be till these clowns sort my auto out.
My ems is plugged into an ignition powered circuit from the cabin fuse block.
