HELP Gear selector, missing bolt? HELP

    G'day

Bought my 04 td5 (200 000km) about six months ago. Took it for a bit of a drive on the beach this weekend. When I started the car to go out in the evening a bit later, after I got home the gear selector was stiff to get past neutral and into drive. When I went to drive it again, I could no longer get it into drive. P,R & N click in and work like normal. D just doesn't click in but will work like normal if held there. Has anyone out there encountered this problem?

When I crawled under the car I also noticed what might be a missing bolt on the drivers side of the bell housing near the bottom. Could anyone enlighten me as to what it might have been that was in there and if anything may have come out. Im doubting if these two things are related but they just might be.

Cheers guy's, looking forward to some feed back so I can get cracking.

That is the hole for the timing pin to go in when locking the crank at TDC.

The shifter issue is most likely a coin or other object fallen down in there. Grab hold of the shifter knob, and pull vertically very hard, don't hit yourself in the face, as it will just pop off. Next, just pull up the gear shifter surround and you will most likely see a collection of coins etc down in there

I shall check that! Should I be putting something in that hole?

I bet you had a good laugh and I feel like a fool It was a $2 coin stuck in there but couldn't see it before because i wasn't sure how to get the knob off (and yes my head is fine). Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated.

You had a win, good stuff. Don't worry, all sorts of weird stuff has happened to us all. That's part of the character that we love about Rovers. Personally can't stand the insulated cotton wool feeling of many other makes.
