But an AGM battery (for example) doesn't need a battery box if used in the same location? Or do all types of batteries need a battery box if installed inside a vehicle?

Hi Pricey and this is one of the myths surrounding AGM batteries.
There are plenty of self-proclaimed experts, battery sellers, who have no idea what they are talking about, claiming AGMs are sealed batteries.
They are not.
These batteries may be spill proof but if something goes wrong, and the most common problem being over charging them, they will spew electrolyte and as such they, like all other lead acid batteries, they must be housed in a plastic box, or in vehicles with dedicated auxiliary battery compartments, like D3s, D4s, RRSs and L322 RRs, the battery compartment is where the auxiliary battery must be kept if you do not want to use a plastic box.
Hi Pricey, the problem of batteries being promoted as supposedly being sealed is now being addressed by a number of battery manufacturers who now label their batteries as being SPILL PROOF.
This is a good move that should make it easier for the average person to get a better idea of what they are buying.
If you want a sealed battery you need a Gell Cell ,then you can even mount it upside down.Big $$$ tho.How and where did you run the wiring.
Cheers
hey guys, i ran the wiring along the top of the chassis rail from the main battery and then crossed over to the other side (passenger side) of the vehicle and ran the wiring up into the left rear tail light area (you could also use the grommet that is there) and then from there further to behind the cargo bin area where i drilled a hole for the wire to come out of. for the earth wire i followed the same path back to the engine bay area and connected it to the main earth strap/point up near the starting battery
What exide battery is it exactly and what made you go for that model?
Do you remember what you paid for it?
hey walker it is an exide stow away leisure cycle (deep cycle) 95 amp hour. I bought it from my auto electrician as it was purposely made to be stowed away in caravans as a low maintenance deep cycle battery. Its size is 95AH and i think i paid about 200 for it. i was originally looking for a sealed lead acid battery of around 100AH but the price difference was quite large so opted for this instead! hope this helps
disco baz
Thanks. That sounds fine for my use.
