Well the P38A's only came out with V8's, so I would imagine that would make it even easier to fit... You'd probably find there is something on the V8 motor around that area that it bolts to.

So to back up, the P38 HAS a dipstick, Using the same basic engine and auto thats "sealed for life"?.

If I could remember the thread size of the plug in the D2 auto sump (metric definately (anyone (m10 x ??))). I could chase up some adaptors and make the tubes. Then it just needs sticks.

I'm not right up on the working pressures of the trans cooler but would it be possible to make up a T-piece, to screw in between where one of the cooler pipes screws into the box or cooler, to take the sender unit ?. (with apologies for the hijack.)

Absolutely. It's a 14mm tube & steel so you could get a compression fitting T-piece and adapt it to take a sender.

One of the auto places fitted one to my disco2 when I was having problems. I'm sure they said it came off a range rover, but I'm not sure which type. The tube looked like it came up the firewall from what I remember.

In the end it was removed because the dipstick kept unseating from the tube despite the transmission breathers and so was not sealing properly.
    Cheers
