    Differential Noises

    g'day
a general question as hard to diagnose over the net.
my rear diff is giving out some noise when coasting, goes away when throttle applied. could this be the diff pinion (bearings/backlash?), i have a detroit fitted and have just recently switched the rubber coupling for standard 4 bolt flange, maybe my hammer use on the centralising pin has set something off?
what are the known faults on these diffs?.

    Differential Noises

Found the problem, pinion bearings shot but then this was spotted!

Crack around the base of all the pinion teeth, so new crown and pinion and full diff rebuild.
Thanks John at jmac diff and gear at arndell park.
