Putting your climate control fan onto high with a fresh air Intake will preassurize the cabin and stop the dust being sucked in due to negative pressures around the back and side door seals.Quote:

have a look for a td5 filter lid or one from a disco with cruise control. These have a spigot on them to provide clean air for the EGR vac control valves and the vac valves for the cruise control.
Remove that useless junk (it just costs weight and fuel in the long run) and fit a tattle tale indicator (like is on some counties and most trucks) that you press to reset once youve de-dusted the filter OR fit a vac gauge that you can see from in cab. Install a new filter then check its restriction on the vac gauge (should be 1-2 inches of water maximum) then pull it to clean it once the gauge indicates 10 inches of water higher than the "as new" reading.
When the gauge sits at 5 or so inches above "as new" after cleaning (and by cleaning I mean gently tapping it out on a tyre so the dust falls down and out) its time to look at a new filter on the next service interval.
If the gauge goes 10 inches of water over "as new" after cleaning its time for replacement.
How does a Filter Minder Air Filter Service Indicator work? is a good example of a combined tattle tale and gauge type reading.

I use 10 inches of water as thats about the limit before petrol engines start having trouble, Diesels can get away with about 50% more than that and turbo diesels can get away with more than double that restriction.

Yes I know there is a body of evidence to suggest that they are not the thing to use. However I installed 1 in the defender at 40000 kms and have never used any other. The motor now is ticking over 320000 with no oil usage and compression is fine. In my book thats not bad :) I also think that if a genuine paper filter coats the ENGINE side of the filter box with dust it is sadly lacking! I have NO such probs with the uni. And yes I tried 3 paper filters to be sure as I thought I had a dud . Why do offroad motor bikes use oilfoam? Im not saying there is not duds or problems out there, it is I have not found them wanting in my applications. :)

I use Unifilter socks in the head of my snorkel when on really dusty roads. they last about 3 days of dusty roads before causing restriction on my V8 RRC.
Seeing you get 3 in a pack you can rotate them and clean once a week.
I did this on the Plenty, Tanami, GRR, Kalumburu etc.
After I got home I looked at my main paper filter and it was still clean and servicable after 17thousand Km.
I will do the same with the Disco2.

sounds like an excellent plan. I have not used the socks but if they work like that its good. You can have piece of mind that your genuine filter is not going to be overloaded and your not worring about if the filter is going to work or not

Thanks for the suggestions, I think changing the filter is the way to go. Regret not fitting a snokel before it left for UG.
Re the rear door, wasn't there a air flow spoiler or something that fitted at the rear over the door that was there to disrupt flow thus stopping the dust forcing it way in?
