thanks have had a look through that thread. Still yet to give it a good clean around there. But took it out today to grab chaff as chaff doesnt fit in the golf. Fair few stop and starts as i ran my errands and it did not miss a beat. performed as it normally would. maybe it just did not like my mum driving it lol? though i dare say it must be this xyz switch behaving badly!

Every time my dad drives the Phantom, something goes wrong.
Most spectacularly setting off the alarm in the middle of the LR Expo last year.

Sounds like a classic case of the XYZ switch. On one of the UK forum sites there is a tutorial on how to change it yourself.

Changing the xyz switch is fiddly, but not hard. Worst part is that you can't get very much movement on the spanner when taking it out or putting it back in s allow a bit of time. Easiest to have someone else there when you go to test it though. They need to sit in the car and move the selector back and forth and check the dash display.

i iwll look for the tutorial, or see if RAVE has instructions. im a bit worried to take it off as getting it back in the right spot worries me lol. dont want to wreck something!

Well it did it again a couple weeks back, was out 4wding local wiht my mates, deep mud/water puddles. turned it off and it wouldnt start! so we forced it to by bridging the starter motor. It then did not know what gear it was in, so went into a limp home mode/ stuck in low gear thing haha so had to limp home at 20kms per hour, wihch when i got home, turned it off, got it starting in N and it again fixed itself! Have a plan of attack with it when ican afford a new XYZ switch!

another question, my right front wheel bearing has gone, where is best place to purchase a new one? I am saving my pennies as fast as I can and avoiding driving it until can replace it. I have found them on ebay but if there is a better place/ support local id rather that

As much as I would like to support local, I found the price nearly half buying from the UK when I did my front hub

Easy job, but a good torque wrench is needed for the final torque of the hub nut
