exactly. try locking and unlocking the vehicle with the remote first, and see if that helps. also, if the xyz switch has had a catastrophic failure you wont be able to start it and the ms lamps will flash

Not at all, you turn on the headlights and see how much the battery voltage sags. The quickest test is to have the ignition on and pull back the high beam flash. If the dash lights go really dull the battery is a goner, or the terminals need a good clean.

yeah, the battery needs to be tested under load. i dont think highbeam is a big enough load, need like 100amp load.

but given the other suggestions, i would be following them up first.

The XYZ switch you can do by yourself. Check the dash to see if all of the transmission positions are displaying the correct gear - that's your indicator to see if it is working properly or if you have adjusted it correctly when fitting it.

Well guess who started this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to check if the transmission positions were working in the dash. Wouldnt start at all in P again. Went through, get to D, dash display D starts to flash, doesnt register in 3,2,1 D jsut keeps flashing in dash, go back to N, still says D. Put in P, dash goes to P, then R, then N as i move selector. Thought id try to start in N and starts straight away as per normal. M and S lights go off. Turn off, put in P, and starts fine again. Have not driven anywhere. But what on earth??? It owuld not start in N yesterday. I am going to clean the XYZ switch connectors i think. as the oil leak does spread a lof of oil all over my trans and then living on a dirt road gets dirty underthere. I do degrease and clean often as i try to l ocate my oil leak. My other though is low fluid in trans. Disco is currently on a slight downwards slope. I am yetto check my fluid, will move it to flat ground. But could it just be that its low fluid and being on this angle has moved fluid so it thinks theres more in there? i am completely confused as to why its now started. LOL!! i mean glad it has as hopefully means not something major that is super expensive. LOL. i think this means my battery is fine though.

Mine would'nt start last week one morning.May be coincident, but automatic gate would not work either. M&S light was on.I looked at various things, checked battery voltage (was good, battery is fairly new),then put a charger on the battery anyway. Then I tried to lock it to do something else, but it would not lock with the button. Locked it manually, then the button worked again. Checked the electric gate, it worked again, car started again......
