Re-fitting wood trim. Screws?

Interesting.... The same wood panel on my old soft dash classic was held in with spring steel clips and came out easily, without removing the console. It was also a lot thicker with the veneer on a plywood backing. If yours has a plastic back be careful, it may be fake timber, in which case your refinishing options are limited to a gentle polish.

Looking at your panel it is pretty thin so I'd suggest that double sided tape would be the best way to go for remounting, unless your are happy with visible screw heads.

With respect to refinishing Offtracks idea of a gentle cutting polish (or even toothpaste :)) is a good one and may get you off the hook.

Otherwise you will have to gently sand it back and apply a new layer of clear lacquer. I'd suggest using a spray pack and make sure it is UV resistant. Apply a number of thin coats, letting them dry between coats.

When I did the timber dash strip for my D2 it took a week to get the varnishing done.

Hey Rok Dr, thanks for the comments.
Mine left the factory rather stock, and unfortunately someone felt the need to tart it up with this fake crap and a pointless sunroof (I know, whinge whinge whinge :D )
I did try toothpaste and it didn't really do much.
I may just get a rubber mat, or order a better wood trim kit. Who knows :)

I'm not sure it's 'proper', it's still pretty tacky. It does have a few scratches but they don't snag my fingernails so I don't think they're too deep. It's pretty clean so I might give it a go.

Some things I've worked out today.
- I hate dog hair. PO was a dog washer, there was rather alot of the stuff
- I hate dodgy interior fitters. Seriously, there is no way you need THAT MUCH double sided tape :wallbash:
- I hate the handbrake pin. Ergh.
Did I mention I don't like double sided tape?
On the plus side I found a dollar wedged in under the shifter cable so that's a plus :D

I had to stay up one night for a sleep deprevation test. So I thought I'd fit the new CDL lever.

Lets just say your's looks good by comparison to starting the job after 20 hours awake and finishing at 28 hours and still having 8 hours to be awake and realising it's not getting finished that day.

I used Brasso works a treat. The old man would polish scratches out of guitars...

btw. I think the wood veneer you have is an aftermarket bling kit, my ES wood in 12mm thick on the consule and clips in for easy removal.

Lol, I'm thinking of this as practice for the CDL installation, for that day when I have $600 to spend on something it should have left the factory with.

Yup, it's definitely an aftermarket addition.
Despite being listed as an SE from the factory, it had all the wanky items added later.
Wouldn't be an issue if they used proper parts and installed them correctly.

save yourself some effort, $3 can of spray paint from bunnings and have any color you want, pink might work?. :p

why not use velcro?

Velcro is a novel idea, but I don't think it's got quite the secure hold I'd want.
