When adding a snorkel you are best to wrap it in silastic.
I did this by just running a 3mm or so bead across the surface, spray with windex and wrap with glad wrap and smooth out. Leave for 30min, unwrap and spray again and smooth out more. Use something inside to stop up the hole. Should be all good.
It's a bit too late now. The whole area is disintegrating. You just have to touch it and it disappears in dust.
I really want to look at other options for snorkel anyway. I have spoken to safari (snorkel I have at moment) and a couple of experts and they all agree that the snorkel for the 4.0 most likely will be restrictive on a 4.6. You just have to drive it with air box top off to feel the difference.
I was looking at a Mantec type snorkel that runs inside the guard then fabricate a full size hose that runs into the airbox.
Does anyone know if the airbox on the P38 is the same as D2?
I haven't noticed a difference between pre and post snorkel performance.
Again I can't see the component in question in microcat but sure it's there. But just as sure that someone will have a second hand one. I know Bundalene here had a late D2 V8 wrecking.
Yes, I will try to get a 2nd hand one until I work out what I will do snorkel wise.
Grippy, yes that looks exactly like mine. It was a bit of a worry up the high country last week with some deeper river crossings. I did think of tape, but I'm not sure I want to trust just the tape. We will probably be doing some very deep water crossings up the Cape in June.
Those things survive even some serious fender benders.
I have a few used 'uns.
If you want one I can save it for you before this stripped hulk goes to the crusher.
Bloke was a new customer who brought his D2 in for a head gasket and head job. Then a "happy" Land Rover owner he was scudding along at 70mph on one of the Interstates here and drifted slightly onto the hard shoulder; 'cept there was parked a Dodge PU right where he left the lane.
Made a real mess of it he did , but he walked way just a bit shaken up.
I fixed him up with another, (2003 facelift model) hoping he won't "bend" this "new" one.
Just PM me with your address and I will pop it in the mail if you want it.
